If there was ever a Classic Marlborough Sauvignon, then this is it! For the past 30+ years John Forrest has been refining the style through winemaking and in the vineyard. Never a blockbuster, this is all about passionfruit, feijoa, citrus fruit flavours. It is dry, juicy and very moreish.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"A classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc; all passionfruit, grapefruit, elderflower and flowering blooms on the nose. To taste, it has passionfruit and guava, aromatic herbs, lemon thyme and sage with hints of white flowers. It's full and generous in the mouth, yet crisp, refreshing and dry with just a hint of salty minerality on the finish."
90/100 Ken Gargett, WinePilot.com, April 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, this is the very style of wine which has taken the world by storm. From four discrete vineyards around Renwick in the Wairau River Valley (well known to all fly-fishing enthusiasts as one of the world’s great locations for brown trout – most fly fishermen practice catch-and-release but if you did keep one, a fresh, chilled Savvy such as this would be an ideal match). A tiny component which has seen time in oak is used in the blending. A near transparent hue, the palest yellow, there are spices, florals, hints of tropicals with a minerally support and chalky backing. The texture is soft and slightly creamy with a flicker of citric acidity. Medium length and ideal for drinking over the next couple of years, this is a fine example of what the region gives.
