A new addition to our range. Earthsong is a project by Giles Cook MW. Available in New Zealand for the first time, this is targeted for the premium end of the UK market. Sourced from a single, regeneratively farmed vineyard in the renowned Dillon’s Point area of the lower Wairau that has previously made multi-gold medal and trophy-winning wines. Giles reckons the site has the potential to be a ‘Grand Cru’ for Marlborough Sauvignon.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Sourced from a single, regeneratively farmed vineyard in the renowned Dillon’s Point area of the lower Wairau that has previously made multi-gold medal and trophy-winning wines. The vineyard is not tilled, extensive cover crops are used, and sheep are run in the vineyard over winter to provide nutrients. During the growing season, the vines are shoot-thinned to provide ideal fruit exposure and ripeness. Proximity to the ocean provides perfect nighttime cooling which helps to preserve the crisp acids and brininess.
Fruit is the star of the show here, so this allows for relatively simple winemaking. The fruit is tank-fermented and matured on fine lees for 11 months, until bottling. Unlike many local Sauvignons, fining is done with bentonite and as such, the wine is vegan-friendly."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"It's powerfully expressed on the nose, showing passionfruit, kaffir lime, green rockmelon and green tea aromas, followed by a wonderfully flavoursome palate delivering splendid fruit purity and persistency. Brilliantly structured by juicy acidity, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2026."
94/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review (2023 Vintage)
"Fine-grained, punchy sauvignon blanc with passionfruit, jalapeno pepper and oyster shell flavours together with appealing purity. I love the wine's gentle acidity balanced by fruit sweetness, and its exquisite tension."
