Perched on the southwest side of a single, steep, granite hill, exposed to the afternoon sun, sit the coveted vineyards of the tiny Hermitage region. Known as one of the world’s great sites for Syrah, the vineyards of Hermitage produce earthy, tannic wines, bursting with aromas of leather, red berry, blackcurrant, and cocoa. The 2020 Guigal Hermitage comes from 30-year-old vines, and is aged in oak barrels for 36 months. Structured, and rich, with great balance between ripe fruit and earthy undertones.
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Deep ruby red with violet tinges. Spices, red berries and delicate oak aromas. A powerful and tannic wine. Aromas of blackcurrant buds and vanilla. Licorice and spicy finish. A racy and seductive wine. A perfect wine for putting down."
93/100 Stuart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com, April 2023 (2020 Vintage)
"Complex nose of pomegranates, summer flowers and sweet black berries. A very rich wine with a roasted character and fruit that's almost overripe. However, the generous and healthy tannins keep this on track right through the long finish. Matured in 50% new oak and 50% used small barrels for two years."
