Classic Primitivo from Puglia (Italy's boot heel.) Deeply purple in colour, with flavours raspberry, plums and warm spices. Amazingly good value Primitivo. Good structure, soft and balanced.
Produced by the San Marzano Co-operative which was established 60 years ago and has just been rated as Italy's "Co-Operative of the Year" by Gambero Rosso 2022. From the countryside around San Marzano, in the North of Salento, close to the Ionian arc. Here grapes have been grown for over 1,000 years. At almost 100 m above sea level, with high average temperature and little rainfall during the year. The soils are mainly composed of clay and characterized by a good presence of limestone, a reddish brown colour and a very low depth. From the heart of the so-called terra rossa (red soil) land. It is here where Primitivo has flourished for hundreds of years.
