The Domaine Saint François Xavier was created in the early 20th century by François Xavier Lambert in Gigondas at the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Today, the domaine is run by the Gras family, and it is only recently that Jean-François and Christian Gras decided to bottle their own wines. The 28 hectares of vines are planted to 70% Grenache Noir, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre on the typical red alluvial clay that gives depth and richness to the wines of the area. Grapes are grown using the “lutte raisonée” methodology that limits use of interventions in the vineyards, and vinification is traditional.
The ripe dark fruit mixed with green fruit and spice has revealed the typicality of the region, but with concentration that is usually found in a Vacqueyras or Gigondas. Woody on the first sip, along with fresh sage, rose layers of ripe cherry are then developed. The tannins are subtle.

91/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, August 2022 (2020 Vintage)
"Dark and plush, soft and rich kind of feel yet elevates with spice, cool acidity and a lively, biscuity savouriness. It’s hearty and soft, a full flavour and generous wine of ease of drinking and depth. Such a yummy, delicious, warming and delicious red wine. Uncomplicated, moreish stuff."
