Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"DeMorgenzon, ‘the morning sun,’ was so named as it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun because of its high altitude and aspects. We cover the top southern and eastern slopes of Ribbokkop, overlooking the pinnacle of Kanonkop from where a cannon was fired to alert the farms in the region that a ship had put into Table Bay. The first road from Cape Town to Stellenbosch ran through the Stellenbosch Kloof.
The vintage promises a vibrant stone fruit profile, with notes of citrus, green apple, and hints of tropical fruit, along with a subtly integrated oak backing. The wine carries beautifully onto the palate, showing apricot, ripe lemon and ripe apple notes, with structure and minerality.
Sourced exclusively from DeMorgenzon’s own Chenin Blanc vineyards. Southerly and South-Easterly aspect vines overlooking False Bay are managed for optimal exposure to gentle morning sunshine. Granitic soils result in grapes with excellent natural acidity and flavour concentration, a trait further enhanced by our intentionally low yields."

Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"This wine needs just a few minutes in glass to chillax and open up, when this happens the bouquet is a flourish of white fleshed fruits, flowers, minerality and and a fine layer of lees spice. An almost dry wine touches the palate with flavours of fresh apple and quince, the lees spice is accentuated by the backbone of acidity. Medium-weighted with a fine satin texture, mineral and length then fruit flavours and textures repeat. Well made and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2034+."
