Delas Saint-Joseph les Challeys is a rich, full-bodied yet sleek 100% Syrah. Raspberry and cassis fruit jumping from the glass, with undertones of herbs, wood spice and minerality giving a lovely savoury edge to the wine.
Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas Frères today crafts world class wines from both northern and southern Rhône.
Crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange (who is originally from Burgundy), the wines from Delas Frères epitomise finesse and elegance. Recent vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux have bee lauded in the press for their intensity of flavour and excellent value.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"This wine was reputed in the 16th century for its delicacy, and was poured at the table of the kings of France. It was the Jesuits (a monk community) of Tournon who gave the area its current name, in the 17th century. Between 1956 and 1969, all the vineyards from this area which were used to be named Côtes du Rhône have been regrouped and established under the appellation Saint-Joseph.
This cuvée is a blend of various grapes from the Saint-Joseph area between Mauves and Chavanay. Part of the wine is aged in barrels, which brings a touch of oak to the final blend. The rest stays in tanks to preserve the full fruit aromas.
A ruby red colour. A seductively fruity nose (raspberries, strawberries and blackcurrants), with a delicate hint of wood. On the palate this wine has good volume, and shows grippy tannins that are the true reflection of its genuine terroir."
