We reckon d'Arenberg are not only the masters of great wine names, but of having some of the best value/quality around. There are no shortcuts taken in the production of any of the wines – low yields, foot trodden, basket pressed all make for seriously good wines.
Well made and wonderfully named, you could well fall in love with The Love Grass Shiraz. In typical d'Arenberg style this has so much going on yet it is all wrapped up in an incredibly easy package. Polished but with a rustic bent that just adds to its appeal.
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Lovegrass is a weed that grows in the vineyards and its sticky flowers affectionately attach themselves to vineyard workers' socks. This Shiraz will linger with you in the same way that the flowers do!
It all begins with red and black jubes. Pepper and spice notes sing in the glass – the wine evolves and tells us more as we swirl. Some mulberry. Earthy nuances persist through the wine, as an ode to the Organic and Biodynamic principles followed in the winery. Ash, tar, sooty notes. Course tannins will settle with time, enough there for the next 15 years, easily."
Reviews for the 2019 vintage below…
95/100 Ken Gargett, winepilot.com (2019 Vintage)
"The colour is black/purple. Wonderful aromas here, with blackcurrants, leather, chocolate, plums, cloves, some florals, which are ever-so-appealing. There is impressive length here and the intensity is maintained throughout. Very fine tannins, good balance, some early complexity. Great stuff. And at just $25, a serious contender for the best value wine of the year."
91/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, October 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"The nose is all vanilla, choc-mint and plum, the palate more of that but with earth and asphalt tossed through. This is a medium- to full-bodied red wine with fruit and oak served in healthy but appropriate measure. It doesn’t leave you short-changed. It delivers."
