With the shortage of Sauvignon Blanc around we started to look for some new labels to add to our selection and we came across this one which impresses for quality and value. The Bishell family have farmed in Marlborough since 1880, naming the farm Caythorpe. They planted their first vines in 1987 growing grapes for others and in 2015 established their own label. Along with grapes and cherries, Caythorpe remains a working farm.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Intensely aromatic passionfruit, red apple, pear, with notes of herb and citrus. Crisp and refreshing on the palate with concentrated flavours of passionfruit and green mango, with a well-weighted finish."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Pungent, fruity, tropical and full of citrus and fresh orchard fruit aromas. Fresh green herbs and a stony mineral quality with a light flinty quality. Aromas turn into flavours on the palate with basil and mango, lemon and passionfruit, wet stone and and a fine leesy quality with a hnt of gun-flint. Balanced, well made and refreshing with salivating acidity. Great drinking from 2022 through 2025."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Youthfully charming and lifted, the bouquet shows Granny Smith apple, sweet basil, nectarine and kaffir lime aromas, leading to a powerfully expressed palate delivering terrific fruit intensity backed by bright acidity, finishing long and lively. At its best: now to 2024."
