Malvasia is semi-aromatic varietal encompassing a vast family of grapes with a vast, ancient history. Found all over Italy, it is in the Karst/Carso region that it finds perhaps its greatest expression, displaying intensely fruity and muscat-like notes of geranium and pear balanced by the crisp acidity and minerality so typical of the wines of that zone. Persistent and intense with a long, clean finish, it pairs extremely well with vegetable and sea food dishes.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Castelvecchio is a part of the Karst (Carso) area in the province of Gorizia (Sagrado city). The landscape is typical of the Karst region: arid and rocky soil with a reduced stratum of red sand, but rich in iron and lime-stone. The area is constantly ventilated and influenced by the near sea.
Elegant and intense notes of flowers and fruits, like pear. A mineral note typical of this vine variety and of the Karst terroir. The palate corresponds perfectly with the smell aromas as above. Elegant wine with a sapid touch and mineral notes typical of this vine variety and of the terroir. Persistent and intense."

"This wine presents a fragrant bouquet of ripe peach, honeysuckle, and subtle mineral notes. The palate delivers a rich and expressive array of fruit flavours that are balanced by a nuanced and textured experience, culminating in a lingering, elegant finish with a flinty minerality."

"Castelvecchio is a part of the Karst (Carso) area in the province of Gorizia. The dry, rocky soils are layered with red sand, iron, and limestone, and the vineyards are cooled by breezes from the Istrian Peninsula. This malvasia was fermented and aged on lees in concrete and fragrantly perfumed, with ripe melon, lush peach and herbal apricot, with a bracing lemon acidity to tighten and brighten. Enjoy equally fragrant Chinese / Thai dishes."
