There is just something about Argentinian Malbecs that are so comforting. They have made the variety their own and this soft, plush and juicy example from the experienced family owned Casarena winery is another fantastic example. The wine shows perfumed red fruit and plum on the nose nose. A juicy, fruit-driven palate – medium-bodied with red berries and brambly fruit – plus rounded tannins and a long spiced finish.
Located just south of Mendoza City, Luján de Cuyo is home to some of the most famous names in Argentinian wine and was the first region to be recognised as an appellation in 1993. In the rain shadow of the Andes, viticulture is only made possible here by the Mendoza River bringing meltwater to the desert-like conditions. The high altitude vineyards benefit from an extended growing season to produce bold, intensely flavoured wines.
The name Casarena is a creative merging of the Spanish words 'casa' (house) and 'arena' (sand), and is a tribute to their restored 1930s winery made of sand-coloured stone and the sandy soil that their estate is built on. The name 505 refers to the street number where the winery is located in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza.

"Of violet red colour. The nose presents a great expression aromatics preponderated by the notes of red fruit. On the palate its kind tannins stand out and it is perceived as extremely fruity. It is a wine of medium intensity, fresh and balanced."
