McLaren Vale is recognised world-wide for the quality of its Shiraz wines due to the Mediterranean climate and ancient soils. This Native Goose Shiraz from one of the finest quality vintages is a classic example of this reputation. Produced from 3 vineyards aged from 45-70 years old, it shows mature flavours that can only come from such old vines, and yet reflects an elegance which is beguilingly attractive.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Purple hues dominate the colour of this Shiraz. Aromas of ripe plum and fresh red berries, mixed spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and liquorice. Intense berry fruits are backed by complex notes of espresso and toasty oak. A lengthy palate complexed by nuances of mocha and balanced by fine oak. A persistent finish of velvet fruit over well structured tannins.
The batches were kept in individual fermenters for between 7-10 days. The wines were then pressed off to mature in a mix of French and American oak barrels. Barrel selection of multiple batches allowed us to produce this layered and generous Shiraz."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"Richly expressed and instantly appealing, the wine shows blackberry, raspberry, vanillin oak and potpourri aromas on the nose. The palate delivers terrific fruit power combined with fleshy texture and beautifully pitched tannins, making it opulent and delicious with a prolonged, structured finish. At its best: now to 2035."
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, May 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"This is a ripe Shiraz with blackberry and sweet plum flavours married to clove and vanilla. It’s punchy with flavour and satisfying as a result, the texture just soft enough to give it a smoothness."

93/100 Ken Gargett, WinePilot.com, April 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"McLaren Vale Shiraz from a great vintage at this price – what is not to love? Opaque maroon in colour, with cassis, blackberries, spices, vanilla, cigar box notes, plums, and coffee beans. A compelling nose, the wine is both plush and seamless with a cushiony texture and the silkiest of tannins. Very impressive length. Drink over the next decade. Love it and love the value."

"It's worth singing the praises of wines such as this Cape Barren Native Goose Shiraz. Everything is in the right place – it looks good, smells good and tastes just fine. And sometimes you just want reliability over fancy, no? Super soft, much more than anticipated given the depth picked up on the nose. Juicy blueberries and dark plums are surrounded by dark chocolate, cedar and dusty tannins. Gradually drying out, it is long with a spiced finish. An easy casual meal go-to. Tick, tick, tick."
