Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Moonlight Race is a combination of Pinot Noir sourced from our trio of estate vineyards: Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn, and the Sauvage and Sappa Vineyards in Bannockburn. Each vineyard contributes unique characteristics to the blend, resulting in a vibrant expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir. Rich savoury notes meld with red berry and plum, spice and mineral notes. Supple with layers of interest and a wonderful seamless quality through the palate framed by juicy tannins. This wine is approachable now and can be expected cellar up to 7 years."
94/100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2022 Vintage)
"The 2022 Moonlight Race Pinot Noir is supple and spicy, with pink peppercorn, cherry blossom, red apple skins, a hint of blond tobacco and white pepper. The wine is light in the glass (but vibrant) and the tannins suit it—they are totally fresh and fine—finely milled and like poudre. Superb, silky, totally satisfying and enlivening."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas, April 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"An appealing bouquet of bright cherry fruit scents, dried herb, a savoury earthy quality and sense of site with echoes of soil, silica and scented dirt (that ones hard to explain), a natural quality about site. A lovely natural core of light red fruits touch the palate first accented by fine fruit tannins and moments of barrel spice. A lighter weight expression with texture and finesse, floral charms and echoes of site. Best drinking from 2025 through 2029+."

"Supple, elegant pinot noir with floral/red rose supported by fruit and alcohol sweetness. Deliciously drinkable now but with the potential to become even more interesting with age."

"Lots of boysenberry and strawberry aromas and flavours with an underlying smoky and mineral edge. It’s full and layered with beautiful tannins and a long and flavourful finish. A little tight at the end. Gorgeous and curated."
93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, December 2022 (2020 Vintage)
"Straight up delicious. Easy drinking but with enough going on to settle the pinot nerds. Dark cherry, sappy tannins, fresh feeling and lifted, a bit of spice to finish. Feels unadorned and pure, cool and refreshing in a way. Delicious drinking, on cruise control and super appealing. Great to see such unadorned and fresh feeling wines."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2020 Vintage)
"The highly approachable, but very ageworthy 2020 vintage was estate-grown at the company's sites at Lowburn (57 per cent) and Bannockburn (43 per cent). Hand-picked from 17 to 21 year-old vines, it was fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak casks (21 per cent new). Deep ruby, with a fragrant, savoury bouquet, it is mouthfilling and supple, with rich, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent concentration, complexity and harmony. Best drinking 2025+."
