Peter Robertson has been making wine in the Hawkes Bay so long (since the 1970s) that he can be regarded as a 'legend"; quietly making wines from his own vineyards without the need for critical acclaim. This new release from the excellent 2024 vintage has us quite excited. The terms 'smooth and delicious' are very apt descriptors for this dark, juicy Syrah.
Winery Notes (2024 Vintage)
"Inviting and generous, 2024 Back Block Syrah is rich in plum, blackcurrant, spice and succulent tannins. Syrah excels when there is weight and complexity as with this wine. History recorded that the Knights Templar brought Syrah back to France from Persia. Science disputes this. What can’t be challenged is it’s popularity – Salute! "
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Sweetly ripe and complex, the wine shows dark plum, cherry, cured meat, toasted spice, and hazelnut aromas on the nose. It's succulent and supple in the mouth, delivering a plump mouthfeel, well supported by silky tannins, making it robust and sturdy with savoury nuances. At its best: now to 2032."
