Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"A single vineyard Chardonnay from Trelinnoe (tree-lin-o) Vineyard on Roys Hill named for the own er’s historical ties to Cornwall. Trelinnoe Vineyard Chardonnay is a part of our project to highlight some of the most unique, small, single vineyards in Hawke’s Bay.
The Roys Hill hillside terraces are sandstone over limestone and are planted with clone UCD15 Chardonnay. The fruit was 100% hand-picked, then whole bunch pressed to French oak barriques for fermentation. As with all of our Chardonnays, the Trelinnoe Chardonnay was fermented with indigenous yeast. The wine spent 11 months in oak prior to bottling; there was no fining or cold stabilisation.
The 2022 Trelinnoe Vineyard Chardonnay shows full fruit with a great central nice of acidity. The complexity perfectly balances with the oak."
95/100 Erin Larkin, Robert Parker.com, Wine Advocate, December 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"The 2022 Trelinnoe Chardonnay comes from a terraced plot that I am looking at from my vantage point atop the main terraced vineyard of Bilancia. It's a fine-looking place. On the nose, the 2022 Trelinnoe Chardonnay is restrained and yet builds momentum in the mouth; this emphasizes what is going on aromatically. On the palate, are salted nuts, smokehouse almonds, yellow peach, red apple skins, a hint of tarragon and cumin seeds, layers of clove and star anise. This is exotic, rich and savoury. There's lovely acid through the finish. Most of the barrels go through malolactic fermentation (about 70% to 80%). It is composed of clone 95 and was grown on soils that are a majority limestone with clay."

5 Stars, Wine of the Week & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, February 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"From a vineyard on Roy’s Hill in the Gimblett Gravels region of Hawke’s Bay. Hand-picked, whole-bunch-pressed and fermented in French oak barriques before 11 months in barrel. No additives other than sulphur. Taut, pure chardonnay with flavours of lemon curd, grapefruit and mineral—like licking marble. Impressive purity and subtle power. The wine has a seductive, ethereal quality that is difficult to describe but easy to appreciate. Should develop well with bottle age."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"Already delicious, the 2021 vintage was grown in a single vineyard at Roys Hill (not la collina). Bright, light lemon/green, it is full of youthful drive. Mouthfilling, it has concentrated, ripe stonefruit flavours, mealy notes adding complexity, impressive vigour and complexity, finely integrated oak and a lasting finish. Full of personality, it should be long-lived; best drinking 2025+."
