Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"When planting these vines, old, spent bullets were found in almost every hole dug on the slope of la collina; we imagine this area was used for many years as a firing range for target practice.
Single vineyard Chardonnay from vines originally planted in 2001 on the lower slopes, terraces and flat, old riverbed of la collina vineyard. It has always been our plan to produce a flagship Chardonnay from the la collina vineyard, reflecting the variety and the vineyard site rather than the winemaking. The site is planted to a number of different clones of Chardonnay, predominantly B95 and UCD15 with a smaller contribution in 2021 from 548 and 809. The clones and the rows are represented by the stylised artwork of the label."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"The very expressive 2018 vintage is Bilancia's first 'single vineyard, flagship Chardonnay' from the la collina Vineyard, in Hawke's Bay. The goal is a 'tighter, food-friendly wine that will age gracefully'. Bright, light yellow, it is a powerful, weighty, bold wine, with deep, vibrant stone-fruit flavours, showing an almost honeyed richness, nutty notes adding complexity, a slightly oily texture, and a very harmonious, well-rounded finish."

"The 2018 Tiratore Chardonnay comes from the hillside readers may know as La Collina, the source for Bilancia's Syrah. Originally planted to Viognier, this parcel of vines has been grafted over or replanted to Chardonnay, which was then barrel fermented and aged. It boasts refined, floral aromas and subtle hints of grilled white peaches and melon on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate is silky and fine, leaving behind a lasting impression on the finish."

"Quite a deep gold. Rich ‘golden fruit’ flavours. Very round texture and less refreshing than some; though still with notable acidity. A hint of warmth on the end. Quite sweet."
