Love coffee? Love red wine? Then this could be just the thing for you! Winemaker Bertus Fourie, who holds degrees in microbiology, chemistry and oenology, earned the nickname "Starbucks" for his role in shaping the so-called "coffee Pinotage" style. Various winemaking techniques are used to bring out the coffee notes including fermentation and aging in highly toasted oak. Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"This wine is a deliberately modern offering of South Africa’s signature grape. Harvested at optimum ripeness from specific vineyards across the Western Cape, the grapes then underwent fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Regular pump overs ensured perfect extraction. The wine was aged with carefully selected oak for 5 months to add depth and complexity to the final product.
A burst of ripe mulberry, plum and Maraschino cherry meld with nuances of vanilla and mocha on the palate. Luscious tannins make this an accessible wine ready to be enjoyed. The full-fruited flavour, subtle tannins and the hint of coffee in Barista Pinotage make it very adaptable and such fun to experiment with. Try with crispy pork belly, beetroot relish and young vegetables or with brandy snap baskets filled with gorgonzola & maraschino cherry ice-cream."
