Villa Argiano lay claim to being the oldest wine estate in Montalcino, located below Saint'Angelo in Colle, some 8km from the famous wine town. Built in 1581 the Villa passed through many sets of hands over the centuries and in 1992, the current owner Noemi Marone Cinzano purchased the property. In the past the renown consultant, Giacomo Tachis, the man behind Sassacaia, was involved in the project and the Bordeaux varieties were planted but today Bordeaux-trained winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers holds the reins.
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Fruity notes with a touch of oak. Medium-bodied, savoury mouthfeel with characteristic red fruits and underbrush notes. Quite persistent with a nice freshness that marries well with medium tannin."
92/100 James Suckling (2020 Vintage)
"Blackberry with some asphalt and black-cherry aromas follow through to a medium body with firm, polished tannins and a crisp and clean finish. Cabernet sauvignon, syrah, merlot and a splash of sangiovese."
91/100 Wine Enthusiast (2020 Vintage)
"A fresh, spicy, peppery nose draws balance from undertones of earth and fruit. The palate turns juicier, without losing the earthiness of the nose, and expertly walks the line between a lush fullness and a linear edginess. It’s balanced but never boring."
