Now here's a variety you don't see every day. Sagrantino is a rare red grape found mostly in Umbria where this expression comes from. This red has an intense, smoky, spicy nose with blackberry, liquorice, tar, cedar oak-spice and bramble flavours. Not for the faint-hearted, it is concentrated and powerful with dense tannins.

"Established in 1881, Antonelli is one of the oldest estates in Montefalco. It has been farmed organically since 2009 and as well as this Sagrantino they produce some intriguingly good white wines from Trebbiano Spoletino. This red has an intense, smoky, spicy nose with blackberry, liquorice, tar, cedar oak-spice and bramble flavours. Not for the faint-hearted, it is concentrated and powerful with dense tannins. The 2016 is young and needs a couple of years to begin to open up."
