Giesen Wines
Giesen’s story began with three brothers, Theo, Alex and Marcel, who left Germany for New Zealand and planted their first vineyard near Christchurch in 1981. Their first vintage followed in 1984, with their German heritage giving them an early appreciation for cool-climate varieties. At a time when Marlborough was still finding its place on the international wine stage, the brothers recognised the region’s potential, and Sauvignon Blanc soon became an important part of the Giesen story.
Today, Marlborough remains at the heart of Giesen. Fruit is sourced from a range of vineyard sites, allowing the winemaking team to capture the freshness, purity and vibrant character for which the region is known. Alongside its signature Sauvignon Blanc, Giesen produces Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir, as well as organic and single-vineyard wines, including those from the renowned Clayvin Vineyard.
More than four decades on, Giesen continues to combine tradition with a willingness to explore new ideas. Its collection now spans classic wines, lighter styles and an extensive alcohol-removed range, all made with the same focus on flavour, balance and wines that are enjoyable to share.
