Chenin Blanc
Originating from the Loire Valley in France, Chenin Blanc – once widely planted in New Zealand for blending cheap wine – has enjoyed recent success as a quality offering in two places in particular: Millton Vineyard in Gisborne and at Black Estate in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. Marlborough also brings elegant Kiwi Chenin Blanc notes to the table – try Forrest for a classic Chenin experience. Chenin Blanc is known for its versatility in style and sweetness and for a robust acidity that explains its history of being blended to add volume. Tasting notes typically adulate Chenin Blanc’s lovely floral aromas (honeysuckle and jasmine) and flavours of citrus and stonefruit (particularly peach).
