Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"Our Pinot Noir is grown on our best soils in a part of the vineyard that has not been touched by gold mining. For almost 100 years fruit was grown here, peaches pears and apples originally and then Apricots at a later stage. It has been said that if you can grow Apricots then you can also grow great Pinot Noir and this has certainly been the case at Domain Road.
The fruit was hand harvested between the 10th and 20th April 2013. After de stemming and a period of cold soak in stainless tanks, the juice was inoculated with selected wine yeasts before fermentation. The wine has been aged for approximately 9 months in French oak barriques, of which 31% were new.
Our 2013 Pinot Noir is a vibrant deep purple in colour. On the nose it displays bright red and dark fruit with dried herbs, spice, hints of vanilla and toasty oak. The palate has rich red berry fruit and black cherry with a touch of liquorice and leather. A complex wine with good concentration, fine grained silky tannins and a long lingering finish."
95/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2013 Vintage)
"Complex and expressive bouquet beginning with ripe - dark red cherry and blackcurrant, fine dried herb tones and well selected oak. A lovely on its own or with food. Drink now and through 2027."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 Raymond Chan, March 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"Dark, deep ruby-red colour with light purple hues, a little paler edged. The nose is softly full with harmoniously melded aromas of dark red cherry and dark raspberry fruit, with subtle notes of dark plums, and a layering og thyme herbs with dark-red floral notes. This has depth and soft concentration. Medium-bodied, the palate features lusciously succulent and juicy flavours of dark red cherry and dark raspberry fruit that form an elegantly proportioned core, unfolding thyme herb and floral detail. Fine-grained, supple tannins support the fruit with integrated acidity in the background, and the wine flows with good linearity to a lingering finish of dark raspberries. This is a harmonious and succulent, supple, dark cherry and raspberry-fruited Pinot Noir with fine structure. Match with poultry and pork over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 5, 6, 115, 667 and 777, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.4% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 31% new French oak barriques."
4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2013 Vintage)
"Built to last, the 2013 vintage of this single-vineyard, Bannockburn red was matured for nine months in French oak barriques. It's a tightly structured wine with full, fairly youthful colour and a fragrant bouquet, suggestive of spices and dried herbs. Concentrated, it has plummy, nutty flavours, complex and savoury, and a persistent finish."
4 1/2 Stars Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting, April 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"This Bannockburn-reared wine’s floral aromatics are immediately inviting. In the mouth savoury, wild elements come into play and the tannins have real presence. This wine is still coming together – cellar time is needed."
