Awarded Winegrower of the Year in 2022 by Gambero Rosso, Gianni Doglia is a third-generation winegrower with a deep connection to Monferrato’s terroir. Alongside his sister Paola, who oversees the commercial side of their small family winery, Gianni cultivates 16 hectares of vines on the calcareous clay soils of Castagnole delle Lanze. The Doglia family’s vineyards include parcels planted by Gianni’s grandfather over 60 years ago, selected with great care for each grape variety.
Gianni's Nebbiolo has a limpid, medium ruby color, with flashes of mahogany at the edge. Ripe amarena cherries, roasted porcini mushrooms, dried rose petals, and lavender move in and out of the foreground, alternating with suggestions of red licorice, fresh tobacco, and sottobosco as the nose evolves in the glass. On the palate, the wine is clean and sleek, with dark red fruit flavors, including ripe raspberries, sour cherries and pomegranate that gain weight as the wine evolves over time. Silky round tannins and a spritz of fresh red berry acidity cleanse the palate with a long, firm, yet surprisingly polished finish.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Ruby red colour, aromas of red fruits. In the mouth it is fresh with an excellent tannic texture. Ideal for first and second courses based on meat. Destemming and pressing of the grapes, fermentation and after a part of the wine is aged for 6 months in wooden barrels."
