Based in North Canterbury but with access to some fantastic Pinot Noir fruit from Central Otago's Gibbston Valley, the guys at The Crater Rim have once again come through with a great drinking Pinot Noir at nothing short of a sensational price. Those familiar with previous vintages will be extremely happy with this – it's a beauty!
The Crater Rim Limited Edition Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir was sourced from a single Gibbston Valley vineyard with the fruit being fermented in small open top vats by native yeasts followed by maturation on lees in French oak barriques for 15 months.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"The Crater Rim Limited Edition Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir was sourced from a single Gibbston Valley vineyard. The fruit was fermented in small open top vats by native yeasts followed by maturation on lees in French oak barriques for 15 months. The wine is sweetly expressed on the nose showing red/black cherry, floral, earthy mushroom, vanilla and mixed spice characters. The palate is equally attractive, displaying lovely weight and silky texture, brilliantly framed by polished tannins. The wine offers both sweet fruit richness and savoury complexity, making it engaging and satisfying."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Wonderfully ripe and impressively complex, the wine shows Black Doris plum, spiced cherry, vanilla, game, truffle, and fragrant spice notes on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate that's plump and fleshy. It's plush and mouth filling while remaining elegant and harmonious with a lengthy savoury finish. At its best: now to 2024."
