Gold Medal – Marlborough Wine Show 2021
Starborough wines have been making their mark over the past 4-5 years with their Sauvignon Blanc (Michael Cooper's White Wine Buy of the Year 2016 issue) and also with their consistently 5 star rated Pinot Gris. Made in the drier style with richness from partial barrel ferment and extended lees contact. It has nice weight and succulence showing excellent fruit intensity and a silken texture.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"An elegant wine with a finely concentrated palate displaying aromatic white and yellow stonefruits lifted by exotic florals, rose-petal elements and complex nutty and flinty nuances. The wine shows excellent fruit intensity and silky texture, leading to a lingering smooth finish."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"This is instantly appealing on the nose showing golden peach, poached pear, subtle spice and rich floral aromas. The palate displays excellent weight and plump mouthfeel, combined with velvety texture and juicy acidity, finishing long and refreshing. At its best: now to 2024."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"The youthful, vibrantly fruity 2021 vintage (was grown in the Wairau (70 per cent) and Awatere (30 per cent) valleys. Bright, light lemon/green, it is full-bodied, with good concentration of vigorous peach, pear and spice flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, and an off-dry finish. Best drinking mid-2022+."
