Gold Medal – Sydney International Wine Competition 2020
Starborough wines have been making their mark over the past 3-4 years with their Sauvignon Blanc (Michael Cooper's White Wine Buy of the Year 2016 issue) and also with their consistently 5 star rated Pinot Gris. Made in the drier style with richness from partial barrel ferment and extended lees contact. It has nice weight and succulence showing excellent fruit intensity and a silken texture.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"An elegant wine with a finely concentrated palate displaying aromatic white and yellow stonefruits lifted by exotic florals, rose-petal elements and complex nutty and flinty nuances. The wine shows excellent fruit intensity and silky texture, leading to a lingering smooth finish."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2019 (2019 Vintage)
"Attractively fruited and pristine, the delightfully expressed bouquet shows white fleshy nectarine, fresh pear, rockmelon and floral aromas, followed by a succulent palate that is bright and flavoursome. The wine offers elegance as well as up front drinkability, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2021."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2019 Vintage)
"Freshly aromatic and full of youthful vigour, this full-bodied wine (13% alc/vol) has strong, peachy, citrusy, spicy flavours, good complexity and a dryish, crisp finish."
Andrea Pritzer, Panellist, Sydney Top 100 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Subtle aromas of poached pear and white blossom. Fresh and bright displaying attractive textural complexity and hints of gingery spice carrying through to the long persistent finish. The dish brought out the gingery spice in the wine."
