A gorgeous and inexpensive Barolo from the experts. On this wonderful vineyard near the winery, the team at Cogno are able to attain perfect fruit ripeness and aromatic definition in a palate that's flush with beautiful polished tannins. From younger vines, this is a proper food Barolo but also an accessible introduction to this marvellous style. Cellar or decant this total charmer.
17/20 Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com (2017 Vintage)
"Just mid ruby. A subtle, balsamic, lifted nose that is a little closed and with savoury, minerally notes. Opens up with aeration to pure cherry fruit. Focused, concentrated cherry fruit with a rich layer of intense, powdery tannins. Very elegant, with real freshness and concentration at the same time. Novello. Grapes come from a plot of what was once young vines, but which are now almost 20 years old and according to Valter Fissore, every year the wine is becoming more and more Ravera, so in the future in order to continue the label, Cascina Nouva will need to come from a younger plot. Fissore also considers a new label altogether from this plot, which would be called 'Del Comune di Ravera'. Clones are Picotener, Lampia and Michet – which I think give lots of nuances. Drink 2021 – 2030."

"The 2015 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a very pretty entry-level offering from Elvio Cogno. Bright red berry and lifted floral notes pair nicely with the wine's gracious, mid-weight feel. Silky tannins match the wine's finely sculpted, saline-infused personality. The Cascina Nuova is a terrific example of the bright, taut Barolos made here in 2015. I would prefer to drink this gracious, lithe Barolo over the next decade or so. Drink 2019 – 2030."
