Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"A classic Clearview Estate Reserve Chardonnay of power & sophistication. Stylish with power & complexity, mealy with stonefruit, ripe tropical flavours & substantial body."
5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, February 2022 (2020 Vintage)
"A classic and much-decorated chardonnay style with tree fruit, peach, citrus and grapefruit nicely balanced by nutty oak and barrel fermentation characters. A delicious wine with subtle power demonstrated by a lingering finish."
Rated Outstanding & 96/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2022 (2020 Vintage)
"A captivating and complex wine with a bouquet of mineral then layers of lees and fine oak scents, there's complexity and detail with some pure fruit drive – fresh white and yellow peach baked nectarine and sweet grapefruit. I really like the texture and core of fruit with this wine, the flavours of citrus and peach, some fine raw cashew nut from the oak have a positive impact and lasting impact. Fantastic length and persistency, a wine for the cellar or immediate drinking."
NZIWS Judges Comments (2020 Vintage)
"Light gold colour with a desirable mealy, creamy oak scent. It's rich and bold but beautifully balanced in the palate with concentrated peach and a touch of oak spice. Mouth filling and long with a deep savoury presence and a flinty seam that is keeping it quite tight at this stage but there’s so much more to come. Everything is in place to make this a superstar of the vintage. Clearview Estate are the masters of this style of Chardonnay."

5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Combining opulence and grace, this stunning chardonnay shows grilled peach, fig, vanilla and cedar characters on the nose with nuances of grapefruit and gun smoke. The impressively concentrated palate exhibits outstanding intensity and complexity, superbly enhanced by velvety texture and beautifully pitched acidity. A complete package with loads of delicious flavours. At its best: 2022 to 2032."
95/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, January 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"Pitch perfect midway perfume of ripe citrus, stone fruit, vanilla cream. Yummo. In the zone. Feels fancy from first whiff. Supple, lush texture, rolls soft and long, gently palate staining, ripe fruit a feature, so too nutty notes, light honeyed characters and finishes with this delightful, lightly salty-refreshing tickle. So even, so well made, so polished; so well done. Great chardonnay."
4 Stars Cuisine NZ Chardonnay Tasting, August 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"A complex nose resplendent with peaches and other stone fruit which segues seamlessly through to the beautifully balanced palate complete with mouthwatering ripe citrus characters. An expertly crafted partnership of grippy tannin and bright acid lifts this wine high above the others. Perfect deportment."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2019 Vintage)
"For his premium Chardonnay label, winemaker Tim Turvey aims for a ‘big, grunty, upfront’ style – and hits the target with ease. It’s typically a hedonist’s delight – an arrestingly bold, intense, savoury, mealy, complex wine with layers of flavour. Hand-picked from mature vines at Te Awanga, it is fermented and matured in ‘predominantly new’ French oak casks. Still very youthful, the 2019 vintage is powerful, but not heavy, with mouthfilling body, deep, ripe stonefruit flavours, savoury, biscuity, slightly smoky notes adding complexity, balanced acidity and a very harmonious finish. Best drinking 2023+.
