From a winery and winemaker that has a great track record with Syrah. As befitting the excellent 2019 vintage the Church Road McDonald Series Syrah is all class.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"A core of dark plum and berry fruit is overlaid with classic Hawkes Bay Syrah perfume of violets, exotic warm spice and cracked black pepper, supported by subtle oak toast. On the palate the wine is full bodied but fine textured with a gentle tannin structure a balanced acidity bring length and freshness. Well matched to a wide range of full flavoured game and red meat dishes."
NZIWS 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Inky purple, concentrated and intense. Deeply savoury, complex and superbly harmonious with soft, plush, enveloping tannins and layers of richness and flavour. There’s dark berries, black cherries, vanilla, mocha and chocolate with spicy peppery notes adding to the overall appeal."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"Grown in the Gimblett Gravels and the Bridge Pā Triangle, this is a deeply coloured red, with a fragrant, youthful, spicy bouquet. Strongly varietal, it is full-bodied (13.5% alc/vol), with powerful, plummy, spicy flavours that show good complexity and a long, spicy finish."
94/100 Decanter World Wine Awards 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"Enticing. fruit concentration on the nose with blackberry, violet and spice. A full and luscious body and a very long peppery finish."
