With the shortage of Sauvignon Blanc around we started to look for some new labels to add to our selection and we came across this one which impresses for quality and value. The Bishell family have farmed in Marlborough since 1880, naming the farm Caythorpe. They planted their first vines in 1987 growing grapes for others and in 2015 established their own label. Along with grapes and cherries, Caythorpe remains a working farm.
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Intensely aromatic passionfruit, red apple, pear, with notes of herb and citrus. Crisp and refreshing on the palate with concentrated flavours of passionfruit and green mango, with a well-weighted finish."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2020 (2020 Vintage)
"Fabulously ripe and brilliantly aromatic, the bouquet shows green rockmelon, kiwifruit, crunchy apple and lemon zest aromas, leading to an intensely flavoursome palate displaying excellent fruit purity and vibrancy. Mouth-watering and immensely appealing. At its best: now to 2023."
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2020 (2020 Vintage)
"No sooner than I unscrew the top of this wine that the pungent aromas of this variety leap for the glass. Passionfruit and green mango, red apple, sweet pear and fresh herbs. On the palate the aromas turn into flavours of the same. High acidity, crisp and refreshing, gently warming alcohol and a crisp, fleshy and satisfying finish. Well made and ready to enjoy form today and through 2022."
90/100 International Wine & Spirits Competition 2020 (2020 Vintage)
"Raw scents of tomato leaf and fresh peas that are pure and expressive. There is a chalky, racy acidity driven by flavours of sour lemons and limes. Great concentration and likely to improve with age."
