This is the result of a collaboration between Matt Broomhead (winemaker at Three Dark Horses) and David Healy (NZ wine importer and distributor).
From a Single vineyard in the McLaren Vale with vines planted 1965. Hand-picked from just 12 rows, Basket pressed and aged in Tonnellerie-Baron premium French oak (50% new) for 2 years. Just 10 barrels selected.
This is a dark, inky coloured wine that almost glugs out of the bottle. Rich, plummy, fruit cake flavours. There is an old style intensity that is big, chewy and mouth coating. This tastes like the extremely serious wine that it is. At $25 it really is a steal!
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Rich and fragrant, the bouquet shows black/blue berry, violet, olive and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose with a touch of dark cocoa. The palate is equally satisfying with excellent weight and plump mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by fleshy texture and polished tannins. The wine offers terrific fruit purity and power with gorgeous complexity, finishing impressively long and mouthfilling."
And as Matt and David say – “We won’t bore you with the usual descriptives, you be the judge of this old school Shiraz. Drink with gusto!”
