Buy OnlineThis ‘oude’ (literally, ‘old’) genever was created by the Bokma family in 1826 in the Frisian capital of Leeuwarden. ‘Bok’ means a male goat, hence the goat emblem on the crest. Bokma Oude Genever, introduced around the turn of the century, is distilled from pure grain alcohol and has a smooth, delicate taste. It is a popular short drink, and is used as a base for long drinks and cocktails. 'Malt wine,' the basic ingredient of Genever, is distilled from a mixture of wheat, corn, rye, and barley. The other essential ingredient is juniper berries. Distillers make the final product in several stages, using herbs, neutral spirits, and different quantities of juniper berries according to closely guarded recipes handed down from father to son.
Nutty oily nose with fresh hay bales, olive oil and gentle warm cinnamon. Slightly oily mouth feel. Light cinnamon and black pepper spice, brazil nut and hazelnut with touch of white grape, apple and faint tinned pineapple.
