LAWSON'S DRY HILLS RESERVE SAUVIGNON BLANC 2016 is available to buy in increments of 1
We all know Lawson's Dry Hills produce fantastic Sauvignon Blanc and this is their "reserve" version, a wine truly deserving of that status. It has just been adjudged as Cuisine's Top Sauvignon Blanc showing how well this is developing in bottle. “I’m happy with that, because I reckon it’s the best sauvignon blanc we’ve ever made,” said Lawson’s Dry Hills senior winemaker Marcus Wright when he heard his wine had taken top honours. “It’s a sign of a special sauvignon blanc that it has developed so well over the last year,” he added
Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Made from selected fruit from our Waihopai and Chaytors Road vineyards, a portion of this wine underwent wild fermentation in both older French oak barriques, puncheons (500 litres) and stainless steel tanks. Intense aromas of lemongrass, fresh green herbs and passionfriut dominate whilst tropical fruits and some mealy, savoury notes provide background interest. The palate is crisp, dry and mealy with a lovely chalky minerality, bags of citrus, tropical fruit and loads of fresh cut grass."
Number 1 & 5 Stars Cuisine Sauvignon Blanc Tasting, December 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"A Five-Star recipient and top 10 placegetter a year ago, this beautifully crafted wine comes back to claim top honours. “It teases the palate with spice, true varietal signature and a little funk,” noted Cameron Douglas. It’s a vibrant, punchy style where the generous, fleshy fruit core is framed and driven by a flinty layer and bright acidity. The flavour profile includes saffron and Indian spice notes, along with citrus and wet stone. It is a powerful, engaging expression that would be a wonderful accompaniment for fish laksa."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"A beautifully styled sauvignon with a 15% barrel-fermented portion, the engaging bouquet shows passionfruit, stone fruit, lime zest and subtle almond notes. The palate is concentrated and mouthfilling, and delivers excellent fruit purity as well as delicate savoury notes, wonderfully structured by perfectly pitched acidity. At its best: now to 2021."
5 Stars & 95/100 Gourmet Traveller, March 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"This reserve wine was made from a selection of grapes from Lawson’s Waihopai and Chaytors Road vineyards. The wine was fermented using indigenous yeasts in a mix of old barriques, puncheons and stainless steel tanks. Impressively weighty sauvignon blanc with concentration and complexity. Passionfruit, struck match/mineral and green capsicum flavours with a suggestion of cashew."
