Yalumba first planted Viognier in 1980 and have gone on to become true champions of this unique and seductive variety. The Y Series Viognier offers a great introduction to those that aren't so familiar with it and a top value and great drinking style for those that are. This is a very affordable wine that offers loads of flavour personality and charm - it could be your new best friend... seriously though, it is probably the best drinking white wine around that you'll find at this sort of price.

"This wine is corn silk in colour with green hues. It expresses aromas of honeysuckle and jasmine, with poached quinces and apricot. The palate includes grapefruit, lemongrass and stone fruit, and the texture adds layers of fruit persistence. The added aging on lees and wild fermentation deliver a rich and silky mid-palate, whilst maintaining its freshness, making it a pleasure to drink."

"Full. Even straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is fresh and elegantly rich with aromas of yellow florals, apricots and citrus zest, unfolding notes of tropical fruits. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has gently mouthfilling flavours of exotic tropical fruits, apricots, citrus zest and florals. This has good presence and weight, and the fruit richness lends a little unctuousness. The mouthfeel is rounded with light phenolic textures providing balance, and integrated acidity. The wine carries smoothly to a long and sustained finish of exotic stonefruits, tropical fruits and apricots. This is a gently mouthfilling, dry Viognier with flavours exotic stonefruit and tropical fruit, along with citrus zest and apricot notes on a rounded palate with weight and presence. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 2+ years. South Australian fruit indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc. and 3.3 g/L RS, the wine aged 3 months on lees."
