59% Cabernet Sauvignon & 41% Shiraz
Yalumba are masters of the Cabernet Shiraz blend. Sitting just below Signature in the Yalumba hierarchy, this is known by many as the “Son of Signature”.
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2013 Vintage)
"A classic Aussie claret blend of cabernet sauvignon (59%) and shiraz (41%), this is instantly seductive on the nose showing blackcurrant, plum, cedar and dried herb characters. The palate displays excellent fruit concentration and weight, brilliantly enhanced by fleshy mouthfeel and rich texture. The wine offers terrific fruit power and intensity, and finishes superbly long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2023."
5 Stars & 18.5-/20 Raymond Chan, November 2016 (2013 vintage)
"Full, dark, black-red colour with purple on the rim. This has a full bouquet with a soft and dense core, packed with integrated, interwoven aromas of blackcurrants and ripe blackberries, along with nuances of spices, black pepper and savoury earth and game elements. This is beginning to show some secondary complexities. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and succulent with mouthfilling flavours of blackcurrants and blackberries along with a complexing layer of spices and savoury earth and game notes. The fruit is encased by plenty of tannin grip and structure with fine, lacy acidity enlivening and enrichening the mouthfeel. The wine carries the fruit and savoury flavours to a long, rich, well-textured finish. This is an elegant, complex-flavoured Cabernet/Shiraz blend with integrated blackcurrant, blackberry and savoury game and earth notes held by a well-structured, lively palate. Match with roasted game meat dishes over the next 6-7+ years. A blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Shiraz from the Barossa, indigenous yeast fermentation initiated and completed to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 17% new Hungarian, French and American oak, hogsheads and barriques. Winemaker: Kevin Glastonbury."

Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"Yalumba The Scribbler is a youthful embodiment of its beloved older sibling The Signature, sharing the same bloodline, pedigree and winemaking expertise. Showcasing the Barossa, The Scribbler is an elegant, complex and bright wine that is designed to drink now but can also be cellared for medium term enjoyment."
91+/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, April 2018 (2014 Vintage)
"It’s not plump or fat with flavour and cabernet seems to be in control, but it’s well structured and balanced and in the end I just enjoyed drinking it. Boysenberry and blackcurrant, mint, tobacco, the lightest touch of truffle. It’s complex but in a light-ish way. It breathes up well as it rests in the glass. It’s good buying, so long as you’re not expecting anything too ‘big’."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"Beautifully styled and composed, the complex bouquet shows blackcurrant, cranberry, thyme and cedar characters, leading to a succulent palate that is brightly fruited and gently weighted. The wine offers fruit intensity as well as elegance, well supported by fine, chalky tannins. Harmonious and attractive. At its best: now to 2020."
4 Stars & 18.0/20 Raymond Chan, November 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"Dark, deep ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is elegantly proportioned with soft aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries entwined with cassis liqueur and mint herb, and hints of black pepper. The aromatics are softly packed and harmoniously integrated. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a rounded and deep heart with flavours of ripe blackcurrants with some cassis and mint notes entwined with a little raspberry and spice. The flavours are gently mouthfilling and are supported by fine, grainy tannin structure, with integrated, soft acidity. The structure carries the flavours to a long finish of blackcurrants and herbs. This Cabernet/Shiraz blend has a rounded, deep heart of blackcurrant and herb flavours with subtle spice notes on a fine, structured palate. Serve with herb-marinated lamb and beef dishes over the next 6-8 years. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Shiraz from the Barossa, hand-picked and wild yeast initiated fermentation to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 13 months in 21 % new French, Hungarian and American hogsheads and barriques."
