YALUMBA THE CIGAR CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014 is available to buy in increments of 1
The name ‘Cigar’ is derived from the unique cigar like shape of Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa strip from where this comes. Mainly from the famous Menzies vineyard along with for the first time fruit from a new recently purchased vineyard block. Maybe it is the inclusion of this fruit, the vintage, but what ever, this is a tremendous buy. Dark ripe Cabernet fruit with choco-cassis, smoke/earthy characters and plush and firm on the palate.
Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"This wine is plum red in colour and medium to full depth in hue. Bright cherry, chocolate and musk fruit aromas are supported by savory cedar oak. The palate is vibrant with blueberries and curry leaf, balanced by choc-mint with the tannins having a mouth filling praline texture. Long and lingering the finish has the structure that Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is famed for."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"Grapes were sourced from renowned The Menzies Vineyard, the wine offers irresistible aromas of cassis, spiced cherry, tobacco, cedar and vanilla on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate that is magnificently expressed with fine texture and layers of delicious, engaging flavours. The wine is complex, flavoursome and refined. At its best: now to 2024."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, November 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"Dark, deep, impenetrable black-red colour, a little lighter on the rim with slight purple hues. The nose is firm with elegantly concentrated with tightly bound aromas of ripe blackcurrant fruit with blackberries, soft cassis notes and mint herb elements. This has good depth and intensity, and is brooding in character. Full-bodied to taste, the palate has very good depth and intensity, with concentrated flavours of ripe blackcurrants and cassis with blackberries and soft herbal notes. This has a deep core with fine, grainy, ripe tannins providing plenty of structure and grip. The acidity lends freshness and balance. This has very good linearity and underlying power, and the wine carries to a rich, concentrated, softly lingering finish. This is an elegantly concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon with sweet blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with cassis and herbs on a grainy textured and structured palate with plenty of power and linearity. Match with roasted lamb and beef dishes over the next 8-10 years. Fruit from ‘The Menzies’ vineyard, Coonawarra, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 20% new French oak barriques. Winemakers: Peter Gambetta and Natalie Cleghorn."
