YALUMBA THE CIGAR CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2013 is available to buy in increments of 1
The name ‘Cigar’ is derived from the unique cigar like shape of Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa strip from where this comes. Mainly from the famous Menzies vineyard along with for the first time fruit from a new recently purchased vineyard block. Maybe it is the inclusion of this fruit, the vintage, but what ever, this is a tremendous buy. Dark ripe Cabernet fruit with choco-cassis, smoke/earthy characters and plush and firm on the palate.
Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"This wine is plum red in colour and medium to full depth in hue. The bouquet shows bright cherry, chocolate and musk fruit aromas supported by savoury cedar oak. The palate is vibrant with blueberries and rhubarb balanced by choc-mint with the tannins having mouth-filling praline texture. The finish is long and lingering."
92/100 & Editors' Choice Wine Enthusiast (2013 Vintage)
"Like most of the Yalumba wines, the oak levels have been pared back in recent vintages, allowing this wine's cassis fruit to to shine. Hints of tobacco, bay leaf and sage bring complexity, while the tannins are fine, adding a softly dusty feel to the long finish."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 Raymond Chan, August 2017 (2013 Vintage)
"Full, even, black-red colour with black hues, near impenetrable. The nose is very fresh, elegant and tightly bound with intensely penetrating aromas of blackcurrants and cassis liqueur, along with mint and an array of herbs, with blackcurrant leaf. This has beautiful purity, and reveals a little minerality. Full-bodied, the palate is tightly packed and very densely concentrated with intense and penetrating flavours of pure blackcurrants and cassis liqueur, along with mint herbs. The palate possesses very fine-grained tannins and fresh, crisp acidity, and the wine has a very long, tight, dry finish. This is classical Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon showing startling fruit intensity and purity. 8-12 years ahead. Coonawarra fruit, predominantly from ‘The Menzies’ vineyard, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 26% new French oak barriques and French and Hungarian oak hogsheads."
