"The fruit for this wine comes from a combination of vineyards with varying soils and viticultural techniques from the Southern Valley tributaries of the main Wairau Valley. The common thread between the vineyards was an unrelenting focus on vine health, achieved by careful yield adjustments and water management, as well as a balanced approach to vine nutrition. 

A classic Wairau Valley style bursting with the trademark ripe fruit characters found in this sub region. The nose displays pure and powerful aromas of passionfruit, grapefruit, blackcurrant, and underlying subtle flinty tones. The palate is concentrated with an enticing array of ripe gooseberry and guava flavours, naturally complemented by a fine thread of acidity and a long finish."

"Behind some lively aromatic ‘green’ pyrotechnics (coriander, lime zest), sits a wine of substance. “There’s weight and length to the palate,” noted Ben Glover. Typically (for a Villa Reserve sauvignon), soft yet focused acidity underpins a brilliant array of flavours - lime cordial, sage, briny seashell notes, with a dab of sweetness providing extra colour. There’s bigness here, but presented in a delicate package. Try it with a salmon gravlax."

"An authoritative wine, it is typically ripe and zingy, with impressive weight and length of flavour, and tends to be fuller in body, less herbaceous and rounder than its Clifford Bay stablemate (above). The contributing vineyards vary from vintage to vintage, but Peter and Deborah Jackson's warm, stony vineyard in the heart of the valley has long been a key source of grapes, and sometimes a small part of the blend is barrel-fermented, to enhance its complexity and texture. The 2016 vintage is fragrant and lively, with slightly 'sweaty' tropical-fruit aromas leading into a mouthfilling wine (13.5 per cent alcohol) with concentrated, ripely herbaceous flavours and a dry (3.4 grams/litre of residual sugar), finely poised, rich finish."
