Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Fruit from the Barrique Fermented blend come from across Gisbornes most prestigious vineyards. The Katoa and McDiarmid Hill sites are western edged vineyards beautifully positioned on north facing gentle hillside slopes. Taking full advantage of the sunlight, dry wind conditions and slightly cooler temperatures, the additional elevation provides the winemakers with a wonderful head start for producing this outstanding wine. In comparison the Ledger block, situated on clay-loam soils in the middle of the Patutahi area, is a relatively warm site ripening full flavoured fruit. Careful yield management and timely leaf plucking around the bunch zone in all blocks ensures that desired fruit ripening and quality can be achieved.

Styled to capture the regional essence of Gisborne, the Barrique offers a complex medley of fresh stone fruit aromas with hints of tropical fruits and smoky grilled nut characters. The palate is seamlessly textured with a creamy mid-palate, leading to a finish extended by harmonious acidity. This wine is well-integrated and appealing for enjoyment on release, but will continue to develop further complexity with maturation."
Top 10 & 5 Stars Cuisine Chardonnay Tasting, September 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Made using the best fruit grown across a number of Gisborne vineyards, this is a lively package. Mealy, toasty aromatics usher in an impressive palate – taut, vivid, with a core of citrus and stonefruit laced with charry, flinty complexity. It’s made for a chorizo and prawn risotto."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"This acclaimed wine is usually sourced principally from the company's Katoa and McDiarmid Hill vineyards. The 2015 vintage was grown at McDiarmid Hill (75 per cent), in the Patutahi district, and the Tietjens Vineyard, at Bushmere. Fermented in French oak casks (half new), and mostly (55 per cent) put through a softening malolactic fermentation, it is a concentrated, ripe, peachy, very generous wine, with slightly smoky notes, hints of butter and toast, and excellent complexity and length."
Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com (2015 Vintage)
"Tropical fruit fills the bouquet with complex, nutty, savoury, mealy notes and hints of grilled nectarine adding to the allure, and the taste is full-bodied and toasty with hazelnut, cedar and nutmeg notes, a complex mealiness, a beautiful almost butterscotch overtone and a sweet smokiness wafting through the honeyed oak finish that has bright, spicy accents. Wonderfully persistent, mouthfilling and long."
