Winery notes (2010 Vintage)
"Winemaker Grant Taylor describes this vintage as “taking Gibbston to a place it’s never been before”. Beautifully perfumed aromatics: floral in nature, and reminiscent of violets, ripe red berry and cherry fruit.Concentrated core of berry fruit flavours wrapped around bright acidity and very fine, ripe tannins. This vintage is Gibbston showing power, concentration, finesse and beauty all at the same time."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2012 (2010 Vintage)
"This is an exceptional expression of this sub-region. The bouquet is engaging and perfumed, displaying red/black cherry, floral, game and subtle dried herb notes. It's beautifully focused on the palate with excellent weight and fine texture, leading to a lengthy, refined finish. A wine of stunning poise and harmony, it will develop even greater fragrance with time. At its best: 2013 to 2020."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2010 Vintage)
"The 2010, French oak-aged for 11 months, is a top vintage. Deeply coloured and youthful, it is very elegant and supple, with rich cherry, plum and spice flavours, woven with fresh acidity, and fine-grained tannins. It's not a blockbuster, but shows excellent depth and finesse, in a 'feminine' style with obvious potential for cellaring."
94/100 Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak (2010 Vintage)
"Fresh, focused and elegant with nice weight. Fruity and expressive with cherries and plums, and quite a bit of elegance. Rounded and expressive."
5 Stars & 19.5/20 Raymond Chan, July 2012 (2010 Vintage)
"Clones 5, 6, 115, 113, 114 and 777 from Gibbston vines planted in 2000, fermented with 25% whole bunch to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 32% new French oak barrels. Full, even, dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple rim. The bouquet is extremely elegant in proportion and very refined in expression, with subtly lifted dark red and violetty florals enhancing the dark red berry and cherry aromas. This has beauty in its aromatics. Medium-bodied, this is elegant in presentation, but has a concentrated underlying core to the palate. Detailed flavours of dark red berry and black fruits are lifted by ethereal floral notes and are framed by tightly concentrated and fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity contributes to the fruit sweetness and the flavours flow with finesse to a very long and sustained finish of dark red fruits, florals and some thyme herb nuances. A wine of great beauty and refinement, and with the structure and balance to age 8-10 years. Match with duck and pork. 700 cases made."
