Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Bright straw with golden/green hues, this Sauvignon Blanc has an abundance of blackcurrant, white peach and chalky aromas with hints of elderflower, green fig and lily. The palate has great concentration yet displays poise and elegance – dry and refreshing with persistent flavours of mandarin peel and grapefruit pith, a touch nettle leaf on the finish and mouthwatering acidity."
4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"The classy 2016 vintage is from five sites, in the Awatere and Southern valleys, and at Rapaura, in the Wairau Valley. Fresh and sweet-fruited, it has strong, vibrant melon, lime and green-capsicum flavours, a slightly salty streak, a touch of complexity, and a finely balanced, dry (2.8 grams/litre of residual sugar), persistent finish."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2016 Vintage)
"Grapes were sourced from the Awatere, Southern Valley and Rapaura districts for this fabulous sauvignon. The wine is filled with ripe passionfruit, currant, feijoa and lemongrass characters, together with excellent fruit intensity and vibrancy, finishing superbly long and delicious. A powerful expression, ticking all the right boxes, and offers terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2019."
4 Stars & 18.0/20 Raymond Chan, August 2016 (2016 Vintage)
"Brilliant pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on the rim. The nose is softly full and gently voluminous with near-ethereal, but intense aromas of ripe passionfruit entwined with fresh herbs, gooseberry fruit, green stonefruits and minerals. This is refined in expression. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features soft, gentle and harmoniously melded fruit flavours of passionfruit, gooseberries, fresh herbs and minerals. The mouthfeel is very refined and soft-textured with a delicate, dry, phenolic thread and line, enhanced by subtle, lacy acidity. This is subtly refreshing with liveliness and energy that carries the wine to a harmonious, smooth, lingering finish of passionfruit and gooseberries. This is a soft and refined Sauvignon Blanc with harmonious flavours of passionfruit and gooseberries, and a fine-textured, smooth flowing palate and lacy acid freshness. Match with seafood and Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years. Fruit from five sites in the Awatere, Southern Valleys and Rapaura sub-regions, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. and 1.8 g/L RS, a portion of the wine aged 3 months on fine lees. 8,000 cases made."
Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com (2016 Vintage)
"The bouquet radiates tropical guava, cape gooseberry, pineapple, summer herbs and sunny days and the fabulously fresh taste overflows with vibrantly zesty citrus, a hint of peach, a touch of yellow capsicum, a gorgeous zing of fennel pollen and there is palate richness to the long juicy finish where a touch of mandarin sings."
