Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Sourced from our exciting new Brookby Hill vineyard in the Omaka Valley. Handpicked at sunrise to retain freshness, fruit purity and varietal character, the grapes were then gently pressed. 90% was fermented at very cool temperatures in stainless steel, while 10% went through wild fermentation in seasoned French oak barriques. The wine was kept on fine lees for 4 months to add mouthfeel and complexity.

A very aromatic style of Pinot Gris, revealing fresh pear, crystallised ginger and Jasmine aromas. Textured and dry in style, the wine has zingy lime, orange and marmalade flavours, mingled with mineral notes and hints of raw honeycomb. This Pinot Gris is well balanced, softly textured, and has great mouthfeel and persistence of flavour."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, December 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, light on the rim. The nose is soft and refined with ethereal aromas of white and yellow stonefruits with harmoniously interwoven notes of exotic white florals and subtle notes of honeysuckle. This is elegantly fragrant and beautiful in expression. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has moderately deep fruit flavours of white and yellow stonefruits along with notes of florals and honeysuckle. The fruit forms a well-concentrated core and the wine flows along a fine phenolic-threaded line with balanced lacy acid energy. The wine carries with good drive and linearity to a lingering finish of exotic stonefruits, florals and honey. This is a refined dryish Pinot Gris with exotic flavours of stonefruits, honeysuckle and florals on a fine-textured palate with very good linearity. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Brookby Hill’ vineyard, vines 17 y.o., tank-fermented with 10% in barrel to 13.0% alc. 4.2 g/L RS the wine spending 4 months on lees. 700 cases made."
4 Stars Yvonne Lorkin, February 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"The 2016 won a gold medal at the 2017 NZ International Wine Show because it seduced the judges with its nashi and nectarine nuances, prickly, sexy texture, sweet, ripe perfume and cleansing length of flavour. I reckon this new version is just as delicious. Made by the dangerously talented (and not shabby looking) Dave Clouston, this gris has a lovely mouthfilling texture and apple-like freshness on the finish. It’s gumnumbingly good with roast duck, lychee and mint salad."
