Gold Medal - International Wine Challenge 2016
The Trapiche Terroir series concept, through its Single Vineyard wines, aims to convey the extraordinary potential of the vast array of Argentina´s terroirs and its effect over the country’s flagship grape, Malbec. Each year, Trapiche's chief winemaker, Daniel Pi, and his team, will select the three best Malbec wines from exceptional vineyards to communicate Trapiche's foundations: the richness of diversity. This concept also represents Trapiche's tribute to the grape growers who deliver their premium grapes and give identity to the wines.
IWC 2016 (2011 Vintage)
"Deep, amazingly youthful looking. Fresh and lightly perfumed with very good depth of fruits. Inky, spicy. The highlight of the wine is the freshness of the finish. Sugar and acidity are well balanced. Broad but supple tannins. Pure class."
95/100 Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, August 2015 (2011 Vintage)
"The 2011 Terroir Series Malbec Finca Ambrosia is pure Malbec from the Gualtallary vineyards belonging to Finca Ambrosía (whose wines I also tasted this time). As is the norm in the Terroir Series, the grapes fermented in small concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in new French oak barrels for 18 months. The bottle I tasted from was a little reduced, so energetic decanting might be a good idea. It took time to reveal subtle floral aromas and wild berries, with perfectly integrated oak and a sense of harmony and elegance that surpasses the other wine from the Terroir Series. The palate is austere, serious with the chalky minerality, very fine tannins and great balance. One benchmark Malbec form Gualtallary that is seductive, elegant and mineral. Amazing that a top-scorer is still very good value for the quality it delivers. 20,000 bottles were produced."

94/100 James Suckling (2011 Vintage)
"This is subtle and refined for a flavor-intensive malbec with dried fruit and hints of violet character. Full-bodied and focused with beautiful fruit and a clean finish. Serious wine. Drink now or hold. Single vineyard."

94/100 Natalie Maclean (2011 Vintage)
"The grapes for this magnificent Argentine red wine are sourced from vineyards in Gualtallary, Tupungato and Mendoza planted at an altitude of 1307 metres above sea level in mostly sandy soil and 30% calcaire gravel. The grapes are carefully hand harvested, with bunch and berry selection and de-stemming. Fermentation is done with wild native yeast and maceration takes place in small concrete vats over 25 days, at 26-28ºC with a natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels with bottle aging of another 12 months. This Malbec offers classic aromas of black fruit, thyme, rosemary, and anise. Great mineral depth with firm tannins and a long finish. Pair with game meats and hard cheeses. Highly recommended."

94/100 Wines & Spirits (2011 Vintage)
"Super-charged, intense, juicy and hyperconcentrated, this malbec is voluptuous in all its aspects. Full of aromas and flavours of black fruit and spice, lavish in its oak, this comes from a five-year-old vineyard in Gualtallary, in the Uco Valley. That high-elevation site sustains the wine’s balance and freshness with finely integrated acidity. Cellar this for five years to allow the wine’s complexity to fully evolve."

91+/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous (2011 Vintage)
"Saturated bright red. Musky soil-driven aromas of blackberry, cassis and minerals. Ripe, plush and broad but still youthfully inexpressive, even a bit inky. Firm, harmonious acidity gives shape and cut to this classically dry, deep Malbec but the strong tannins call for at least a few years of aging. A pronounced mineral element lifts the finish. This beauty may ultimately merit an even higher rating."
