Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Deep red in colour with a purple hue. A complex savoury nose with fruit characters of black plum from the merlot and some lifted black-currant bud notes from the Cabernet Franc. Barrel ferment notes of coffee, funk and chorizo sausage add savoury complexity and interest. The palate is very full bodied with amazing weight and fineness. The spice notes are in the range of vanilla, caramelised sugar and toasted raisin bread. The texture on the palate is from supple front palate grape skin tannins. These tannins are largely obscured by the weight and richness of glycerol and alcohol. These underlying tannins help balance this fruit richness and give the wine structure without contributing bitterness."
92/100 Bob Campbell MW (2015 Vintage)
"Ripe, almost luscious, merlot with plum, dark berry and spicy oak flavours. Perfectly structured red with ripe tannins supporting a core of appealing sweet fruit. The wine is deliciously accessible but promises to develop with at least a little bottle age."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Enjoyable young, the 2015 vintage is a blend of Merlot (91 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (9 per cent), hand-picked, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for a year in French oak casks (40 per cent new). Full-coloured, it is mouthfilling (14.5 per cent alcohol) and supple, with vibrant, ripe, plummy flavours, fresh and generous, and a well-rounded finish. Priced right."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Youthful and immediately appealing, the bouquet shows dark plum, blueberry, violet and mixed spice characters, which lead to a succulent palate that is beautifully fruited and finely textured. Wonderful fruit purity and harmony. Very long on the finish backed by polished tannins. At its best: now to 2022."
4 Stars & 18.0+/20 Raymond Chan, May 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a tightly bound bouquet of finely expressed aromas of ripe black-berried fruits, black and red currants, subtle black plum notes and dark red floral fragrances. Medium-full bodied and elegant in proportion, the palate is tightly bound with flavours of black and red currants intermixed with nuances of red florals. The fruit is refined and supported by fine-grained tannin structure and textures. Balanced acidity provides linearity and energy to the flow, and the concentrated core of black fruits carries along a fine-grained line leading to a tight, lingering aromatic black-fruited finish. This is an elegant, tightly concentrated, black-fruited Merlot with fine grip and acidity. Match with roast lamb and beef over the next 6-8 years. A blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, the fruit from three vineyards: Moteo, S.H. 50 (for the Cabernet Franc) and one in Bridge Pa, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 40% new oak. Approx. 500 dozen made."
