Gold Medal - New Zealand International Wine Show 2017
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, December 2016 (2016 Vintage)
"A gorgeous pinot gris; grapes were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed, then fermented in seasoned oak barrels using indigenous yeasts. The fragrant and complex bouquet shows baked pear, mango, orange peel and spice characters, leading to a succulent palate that is concentrated and richly textured. This hugely appealing wine is elegantly opulent and very delicious. At its best: now to 2020."
5 Stars & 19.0/20 Raymond Chan, December 2016 (2016 Vintage)
Full, light golden-yellow colour with slight green hues and some depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is full, soft and densely packed unfolding layers of opulently ripe yellow stonefruits and tropical fruit aromas entwined with yellow florals, honey, and nuances of nuts and minerals. Medium-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and weighty with plenty of mouthfeel and presence, showing soft and densely concentrated flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, tropical fruits, honey, with notes of florals, musk, nuts and minerals. The palate has suggestions of unctuousness and has some underlying alcohol drive, and the wine flows along a fine phenolic line with integrated acidity. The wine carries to a strong, rounded, but concentrated finish of stonefruits, honey and musk. This is a rich, densely packed, opulent medium-dry Pinot Gris with power and weight, and flavours of ripe stonefruits, tropical fruits, honey and florals. Match with mildly spicy Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit, 60% fermented in season oak and 40% tank-fermented to 13.5% alc. and 14 g/L RS, the wine undergoing batonnage."
4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Already delicious, the 2016 vintage is a sturdy, fleshy, Alsace-style wine, hand-picked and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a mix of seasoned French oak barrels (60 per cent) and tanks. Full-bodied and soft, it has rich stone-fruit and spice flavours, a splash of sweetness (14 grams/litre of residual sugar) and a slightly oily texture. Drink now or cellar."
4 Stars Cuisine Pinot Gris Tasting, February 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Made from estate-grown fruit of which 60% is fermented in old oak barrels for added roundness and complexity, this is a delightfully energetic, concentrated wine. Sweet juicy stonefruit and apple strudel flavours are projected in soft focus. It is balanced and lengthy."
