SUMMERHOUSE VERDELHO 2015 is available to buy in increments of 1
The only wine to achieve 5 Star status in Cuisine magazines 'Specialty Whites' tasting in the August 2017 issue. A great achievement for a relatively unknown variety that originates from Portugal and is planted in tiny quantities here in New Zealand. Barrel fermented, this is nicely textured with stonefruit, tropicals and a smidgeon of citrus with spicy oak highlights. Really tasty and perfect for when you just want something a little different.
Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"An expressive, full bodied Verdelho, with lifted aromas of honeysuckle, kaffir lime and peach. A touch of spicy oak, combines with creamy nuances to add palate weight and complexity. A succulent wine with fine fruit flavours that linger to a gentle, silky finish."
Number 1, 5 Stars & Best Buy Cuisine Specialty White Tasting, August 2017 (2015 Vintage)
This is a pure, joyous example of a Portuguese grape that has shown a liking for New Zealand conditions. Spring orchard and feijoa scents lead the way. In the mouth, it is attractively textured with excellent fruit definition and fresh acidity. “A generous, well-rounded style with terrific poise,” noted John Belsham.
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"The 2015 vintage was barrel-fermented. Bright, light lemon/green, it is sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol) and fleshy, with rich, ripe tropical-fruit flavours, showing good complexity, and a dry finish. Delicious now, it's also worth cellaring. Fine value."
4 Stars & 18.0-/20 Raymond Chan, December 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Full, even, light lemon-hued gold colour, a little paler on the edge. The nose is fresh with intense and bright aromas of white stonefruits intermingling with a layer of tropical fruits along with spicy, nutty oak. The aromatics are mouthwatering and steely, providing cut to the oak and fruit. Dry to taste and full-bodied, the palate has a solidly packed heart with lively and vibrant flavours of ripe tropical fruits and citrus fruits, along with a layering of spicy, nutty oak. The flavours are mouthfilling and the palate guided by light, grainy phenolics and fresh lacy acidity lending drive and linearity. This is a bright and lively dry Verdelho with flavours of tropical fruits and spicy oak, supported by grainy structure. The wine leads to a strong and positive, long lingering finish of tropical fruit and oak. Match with grilled and roasted seafood, poultry and pork over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the Lower Wairau / Rapaura district, fermented in tank to 14.5% alc. and 2.3 g/L RS, the wine aged 10 months in 100% seasoned French oak, with no MLF."
