Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"A deep ruby red colour. A varietal bouquet with rich blackcurrant, black olive and sweet vanilla. This is our second straight Cabernet Sauvignon from the Fernhill Vineyard. It has concentrated black fruit flavours, with good tannins and cedar on the finish. Matured in French oak barriques for 18 months (15% new)."
95/100 Bob Campbell MW (2015 Vintage)
"Dense, deep cabernet sauvignon with classic cedar, dark berry and very subtle fresh herb flavours. Quite closed at this youthful stage but with a promising future thanks to moderately assertive, graphite-like tannins."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Just starting to unfold, the classy 2015 vintage is an unblended Cabernet Sauvignon, estate-grown in Mere Road and matured for 18 months in French oak barrels (15 per cent new). The colour is dark and youthful; the palate mouthfilling, concentrated and supple, with fresh, deep blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, seasoned with nutty oak, good tannin backbone, and obvious potential for long-term cellaring. Open 2020+."
96/100 Cameron Douglas (2015 Vintage)
"Dark ruby, purple and blood red core with a bright pinkish rim. Aromas of blackberry, dried herb, Cuban cigar, smoky wood spices, dark chocolate, some violet floral moments and overall concentrated core. On the palate – pretty powerful and concentrated with flavours of dark berry fruits and preserved plum, dried herb and tobacco; a violet floral layer returns. Firm youthful tannins and a back bone of acidity. Bold and attention seeking textures and flavours, youthful, lengthy and memorable. Decant for service, Best drinking from 2021 through 2035+.
96/100 Andrew Caillard MW (2015 Vintage)
"Deep colour. Fresh musky plum, cassis, graphite aromas with savoury, vanilla, herb notes. Lovely pure saturated dark plum, cassis flavours, fine looseknit grainy al dente tannins and underlying vanilla roasted chestnut oak. Lovely inky mineral plume at the finish. 96 points. Supple wine with all elements in alignment, giving complexity, freshness and harmony."
5 Stars & 19.0+/20 Raymond Chan, September 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Full, even, black-hued purple-red, near impenetrable. The nose is elegant and tightly concentrated with intense and penetrating aromas of pure blackcurrant fruit and cassis liqueur, entwined with exotic and piquant dark herbs. This has great class and is quite classical in varietal expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate has concentration, power and drive, showing great richness of pure blackcurrant and cassis flavours, with aromatic herbal nuance. The intensity and depth of rich fruit is stunning, and it is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction and structure providing wonderful linearity. The mouthfeel has freshness and vitality, and plenty of acid drive, and the wine carries to a long and lingering finish of sweet blackcurrants. This is a powerfully concentrated and intensely driven Cabernet Sauvignon with a deep core of blackcurrants and cassis, with balancing tannin structure and freshness on the palate. This is a 10-15 year wine. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 15% new French oak barriques. 200 cases made."
