Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Lime, ginger, and white peach with complex savoury and herbal notes. Palate Finely poised acid supports a concentrated medley of stone fruit, kiwi and mineral flavours. Layers of flavour will emerge with time in the glass. Cellaring Ideally this wine should be at its best around 5-10 years from vintage date."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Estate-grown in the lower Waihopai Valley, the classy 2015 vintage was hand-picked from vines over 20 years old and fermented and lees-aged in oak (mostly new) for almost a year. It is mouthfilling and sweet-fruited, with vibrant, ripe non-herbaceous flavours, crisp, intense, dry (2.9 grams/litre of residual sugar), tightly structured and long. Showing excellent complexity and harmony, it should be at its best 2018+."
Top 10 & 4 1/2 Stars Cuisine Sauvignon Blanc Tasting, December 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"This falls into the “alternative style” camp, where winemaking techniques usually associated with chardonnay are brought to bear on sauvignon. It has been fermented and aged in oak, which lends it a honeyed creaminess. Lemon, toast and a layer of flintiness all contribute to a complex, balanced, lovely wine."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, February 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Full, even straw-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. This has a full and harmonious bouquet with sweetly ripe aromas of tropical fruits, nectarines and greengages, lifted by vanilla and spicy oak notes. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate features rich, succulent and lively flavours of sweetly ripe greengage and nectarine fruit, along with tropical fruits, herbs and subtle, lifted oak elements. The mouthfeel is bright, lively and vibrant with enlivening acidity carrying the flavours along a very fine-textured line with suggestions of creaminess. This has energy, tension and vitality, leading to a sustained finish of green stonefruits and herbs. This is a succulent and lively, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with flavours of green stonefruits, herbs ans oak nuances on a fine-textured palate. Match with herb-marinated poultry, pork and veal dishes over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked Bordeaux-based clone fruit from the ‘Johnson Estate River Block’ fully fermented in wood, one-third large format to 13.5% alc. and 2.9 g/L RS, the wine aged 11 months on lees with no batonnage in 38% new wood, then given a further 6 months in tank, most of the wine going through MLF."
