Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Pale straw shot with gold, this is a luscious mouthful with perfect texture. White stone fruits, spice and dried yellow flowers on the nose, with ample acid to balance the sweetness makes V Pinot Gris the perfect companion for Asian food, chicken dishes and light pastas."
5 Stars, No. 2 & Best Buy Cuisine Pinot Gris Tasting, February 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"This wine is all about shape and texture. It’s a riper style, curvaceous in the mouth rather than linear. The fruit has weight, helped by an appropriate dab of sweetness, with baked pear and spice notes on offer. A wine with purity, integrity and most importantly, drinkability."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"A delightfully expressed pinot gris, the inviting bouquet shows fresh pear, nectarine, pineapple and subtle spice aromas, followed by a juicy palate that is beautifully rounded and smooth. The wine delivers attractive fruit intensity and silky texture, well balanced by refreshing acidity. At its best: now to 2019."
91/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Lush, fleshy and fragrant bouquet of Gris with aromas of ripe apple, sweet pear, white peach and honeysuckle. On the palate - fleshy, fruity, plush and flavourful. The best example of this variety by Spade Oak I have encountered - plump, refreshing and well-made - just the right combination and balance of warmth, acidity and concentration leading to a lengthy finish. Drink now and through 2021."
4 Stars Raymond Chan, October 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues. The nose is very fresh and tightly bound with aromas of passionfruit entwined with white fkorals and fresh herbs, with nettle elements. The aromatics unveil mouthwatering mineral elements, and the nose grows in intensity with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has is thirst-quenching with flavours of passionfruit, fresh herbs, hints of tropical fruits along with nettle notes. The palate possesses fine phenolic textures and crisp acidity enhancing the mouthwatering mouthfeel. The wine has an elegantly concentrated core and line carrying to a lingering, zesty passionfruity and herb-nuanced finish. This is a crisp, thirst-quenching Sauvignon Blanc with passionfruit, herb and nettle flavours on a fine-textured palate. Match with seafood, salads and vegetables, and Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years. Marlborough fruit, 60% Awatere and 40% Wairau, tank-fermented and blended with 7.5% Albarino from the ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard, to 12.5% alc. and 3.1 g/L RS."
