Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"The wine style is modeled on traditional Viognier whose home is Condrieu in the Rhone Valley of France. Barley straw, freshly baled hay slowly developing a golden hue with three years bottle age, with an aroma of dried apricot, jasmine, roast hazelnut, vanilla bean and orange zest. In the mouth, it’s all bottled apricots with cream, mixed peel and almond.

This is a complex wine with layers of stone fruits, flowers, toasty oak and spice. The palate sensation is big, textural and oily yet focused, and easily matches the 14.4 % alcohol. The wine delivers Gisborne’s bold elegance with a rich and savoury finish.

5 Stars & 19.0-/20 Raymond Chan, December 2016 (2014 Vintage)
"Bright, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. The bouquet is full and firmly packed with a core of ripe apricots, exotic tropical fruits and savoury yellow stonefruit kernels, along with complex notes of creamy and nutty oak and subtle oxidative detail. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate features rich and mouthfilling flavours of ripe apricots and tropical fruit, entwined with savoury stonefruit kernels and oxidative elements. The palate has a solid core with layers of creamy barrel-ferment textures melded with nutty oak and MLF lemon notes in a harmonious amalgam. The wine flows seamlessly, with good underlying drive, and the soft, integrated acidity enhances the roundness and richness. The wine carries to a fulsome, lingering finish. This is a rich, fulsome, complex flavoured Viognier with exotic fruit, creamy oak and a seamless mouthfeel. Serve with rich Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4 years. From 2.2 ha in the ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc. and <2.0 g/L RS, the wine aged 9 months in seasoned French oak undergoing a little batonnage and 100% MLF."
